Q: In your experience with other client installations, what do you recommend as
system resource best practices? My assumption is that the more users there
are, the slower some database functionality becomes and the slower
replication becomes.
A: We recommend optimal performance be 1/4 of you existing e-mail load i.e if you have 1,000 people using e-mail on a typical server then you should have 1000/4= 250 users of Tracker with Notes 5 you can use 1/2 the e-mail load.
Q: How do we plan for growth for your products (i.e. adding more users to the Project Tracker system)?
A: Tracker can scale multiple ways: 1) You can add additional Project Tracker databases or Time Tracker databases for other departments on the same server (we do allow integrated reporting) 2) you can also replicate or cluster with other servers to increase the number of users on one set of databases.
Q: When running Project Tracker, what should we know about up front that would
help us determine if we need additional system resources (disks, servers,
etc).
A: If you will be doing serious document management with lots of graphics there could be some consideration if you feel that you will be managing more than 4GB of data in one project database then we should talk. If you are not doing a lot of large document management then 2 GB of space with 1/4 mail ratio should be a good rule of thumb.
Please provide insights about upgrading from Notes 4.6 to Notes R5 and how a
Notes upgrade could impact the performance of a Project Tracker installation.
* Notes 5 makes Tracker faster and allows for more users. If you also use Tracker R5 you will not use any data and receive the benefit of lots of new features and complete web functionality.
